On March 2, the Greater Alabama Council will be hosting its annual University of Scouting at Jefferson State Community College at the Pinson campus. This is a great opportunity to learn some new skills that will help you as a scout leader. There are classes in general scouting, boy scouting, cub scouting, venturing and commissioner science. Scoutmaster David Keith will be teaching a class about Wood Badge as well.
Visit the GAC website to learn more and to sign up for classes. You can always walkup but you can skip the line by doing it online.
One of the highlights of University of Scouting is the Midway. That is where you will be able to catch up with other scouters you haven’t seen in a while and make some new friends. It’s also a place you can meet the current Wood Badge staffers as well as past staffers and participants. They are there to answer all your questions about Wood Badge. If you are convinced, they can sign you up as well.
There is talk that a Wood Badge beading ceremony will take place at University of Scouting. This is where a Wood Badge participant has finished his ticket and receives his mauve scarf and wood beads. Everyone is invited so gather around and see where you could be headed.
Sign up for University of Scouting before all the best courses are taken and make sure you stop by and visit the Wood Badge booth on the Midway.
